Standards Management

Code Development

The collaboration between the NATO AC/135 work group and the Electronic Commerce Code Management Association (ECCMA) resulted in the creation of the ECCMA Open Technical Dictionary (eOTD). The eOTD is a global standard for the identification, description and differentiation of individuals, organisations, locations, goods and services, and is widely used by PiLog as well as its partners and customers.

The ECCMA Global Item Identifier (EGII) code is allocated to standard items.
The ECCMA Global Attribute Identifier (EGAI) code is allocated to standard item attributes.

Features:

  • Classification neutral and language independent dictionary of standard item names, standard attribute names, and attribute validation codes.
  • Leading standard in cataloguing, inventory management, procurement and spend analysis.
  • Caters for multi-lingual environments through the use of coded reply tables.

ECCMA and PiLog

PiLog established its own data content and cataloguing refinery in South Africa in 1999. This refinery was responsible for the development of the Universal Standard Catalogue (USCTM) based on the NATO system principles and work done for the South African weapons industry.

The USC is regarded as one of the world’s most comprehensive industrial schema-driven cataloguing systems. The USCTM was developed as a platform to
translate various standards within or between companies. The strength of the USCTM lies in its practical implementation in various industry sectors and the
selection of appropriate item attributes per implementation,

Due to common design principles between the USCTM and the eOTD, the USCTM adopted a strategy of converting all items names, definitions and attributes to conform to the eOTD standard. In return the USCTM offers practical ECCMA Implementation Guides (EIGs) per industry and/or customer requirement.
